Paracetamol
Dosage/Direction for Use
Susp Childn 6-12 yr 10 mL, 3-6 yr 5-10 mL, 1-3 yr 2.5-5 mL, 6 mth to 1 yr & infant 3-12 mth 2.5 mL. Forte susp Childn 6-12 yr 5-10 mL, 1-6 yr 2.5-5 mL. All doses to be taken every 4-6 hr. Not to exceed 5 times daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Not to exceed 4 g daily. Discontinue if pain worsens or lasts for >5 days; fever worsens or lasts for >3 days; redness or swelling, or new symptoms occur. Avoid concomitant use w/ other drugs. Liver damage. Renal & hepatic failure. Continuous high daily dosage during pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Rash (erythematous, pruritic maculopapular rash, urticaria); mild increase in liver enzymes, hepatotoxicity, acute liver failure; thrombocytopenia, pancytopenia, leucopenia, neutropenia; SJS, TEN, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk of paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity w/ alcohol, anticonvulsants (eg, phenytoin, barbiturates, carbamazepine), sulfinpyrazone. Increase antithrombotic effect of warfarin. Increased risk of hepatotoxicity w/ INH. Severe hypothermia w/ phenothiazines. Reduced serum conc of lamotrigine.
